My First Post

I'll be honest.  I've never really thought much about blogging.  I've never really followed anyone, and I've never really felt the need to blog about my life.

That all changed when I read the blog of Kellie Staats (http://kandjstaats.blogspot.com/) on February 20th.  Kellie's sweet little 4 month old daughter passed away on February 17th, presumably from SIDS.  I have been moved beyond words by her strength and courage.  I have cried and cried with her through the last few weeks, and as much as I would like to stay away from her blog, each day I find myself looking it up, anxiously awaiting a new update.  I pray for her and for her family.  I pray for Maddie.  I pray that the Lord makes me a better person in each role that I play, and to take a moment to really enjoy the little things because I believe that Maddie's short life was meant to teach us all something.  I believe that there was a reason God led me to Kellie's blog.  It also got me thinking about a way to capture my own thoughts, memories, feelings in a way that would be meaningful to me, my family, my kids (when they are old enough to read).  So, here we are.

One of my favorite quotes is "Enjoy the little things in life, for one day you will look back and realize they were the big things".  I really try to live by that.  Yesterday, Caitlin found our almost new big box of Kleenex.  She was genuinely surprised each time she took one out and another popped up!  Instead of stopping her, I just sat there admiring her new-found knowledge.  Time and time again she took out those tissues, and time and time again she was thrilled that a new one popped up.  Instead of being frustrated at the mess I was about to clean up, I grabbed my phone and took a video.

Today, I enjoyed the little things.  Did you?

Love,
Jessica
